Mariah Wheeler & DG Chandler, Proprietors

The Joyful Jewel is dedicated to bringing the spirit of creativity to all, artists and patrons alike.  We offer “local art, fresh from the heart” in a wide variety of media, styles, and prices, each creation made with care, skill and inspiration.  We serve our patrons with care and delight, and we rely on them to help us succeed.  As a result, a  high percentage of our business is from repeat customers and referrals.

We would welcome the opportunity to earn your trust  and share with you the best of local art and fine craft.

 Values, Practices and Beliefs

____ The Joyful Jewel honorably serves the community by providing art of superior quality at a fair price.

____ Patrons want more meaningful relationships with the brands in their lives. They seek opportunities to support the local economy when given the chance, want to know the source of the products they buy and desire more personal interactions when doing business.  We are willing and able to provide this.

____ We inspire others and challenge them to think bigger, feel more deeply, question more, appreciate more – to live their lives more fully and experience the beauty and wonder of it all; to see a grand possibility for their life and  to believe it’s possible.

_____ Our patrons are concerned about the world and want to do their part to make it a better place.  From seeking environmentally-friendly products to rewarding companies’ fair trade and labor practices, they are making purchasing choices that can help others. These consumers want to make a difference, and they want brands to do the same.  We want this too and seek to practice this value in our own buying decisions.

____ We strive for a life lived with integrity, with purpose, with meaning, with joy.

____ We know that creativity, art, beauty, and thoughtfulness are essential to life. Visual art stimulates and enlivens the community.

____ We and our art are major attractants to Pittsboro, generating a sense of vibrant community, and greatly enhancing the pleasure of residents and visitors alike.

____ We celebrate the creative process as well as the outcome.  We dream and imagine.  We have fallow times, generating times, and productive times.  We are disciplined to continue through our quiet times toward activity, and also know there is a time to  stop acting in favor of rest, listening to the muse, and renewal.

____ We are not “starving artists” and we believe that economic success is to be expected in our line of work.

____ We acknowledge the need to earn an adequate profit in order to grow the entity of the Joyful Jewel, allowing it to flourish decades into the future, as well as to provide the opportunity for our artists to achieve their reasonable personal objectives.

____ We honor our muses, listening for inspiration, and we allow and intend to infuse meaning through our work.

____ Our art often reflects, depicts, or celebrates the divine, our inter-connections, and/or the sacred mysteries of life.

____ Honoring time-honed practices and techniques, we take pride in the quality of our work.

____ We vow not to become complacent and we endeavor to keep our art fresh and new.

____ We are not afraid of making mistakes – we learn from them and try again.

____ We take time for classes, to read, and to educate ourselves.

____ We devote a percentage of our time to the new and experimental.

____ We contribute a portion of our income to charities and community improvement.
