I’m drawn to color, texture, and pattern, so inspiration for my paintings comes from a wide range of sources—patterns in nature, the play of light on objects, intriguing color combinations, or personal emotions and experiences. I paint in both figurative and abstract styles, but lately I’ve been drawn more to painting abstractly.
I often start out each painting by creating a background of layered textures and colors. It is a freeing experience that places me in a creative frame of mind and often involves playing around with a combination of paint, papers, stencils and various mark-making tools. As the painting progresses, the process becomes a conversation between me and the work and can range from a couple of days to several weeks, even months, before a satisfying result is reached.
I hope that in sharing my art explorations with others, I can connect with viewers who may find universal elements within my work that resonate and provide personal meaning to them.
