Although I haven’t read every book the the Joyful Jewel carries, I really like this one that I have started reading, our newest one, a book by the fascinating William Sommers. In “Foreign Vistas” he relates some of his experiences through many years of work in the foreign service in Thailand, Vietnam, The Phillippines, Indonesia, Poland, Bosnia, Hungary and Egypt. Included are a few short stories and ideas he has for peace in our times as well as intimate portraits of people from these lands. This is a deeply felt memoir in which William shares the people and places he inhabited while working for peace and justice. Each chapter includes a color picture, some of which are from his late wife’s artwork (Joan Sommers).
